DEVON ALLMAN’S HONEYTRIBE’S SPACE AGE BLUES TO BE RELEASED BY PROVOGUE RECORDS ON OCTOBER 12, 2010

Wed, 08/11/2010 - 17:43

DEVON ALLMAN’S HONEYTRIBE’S SPACE AGE BLUES TO BE RELEASED BY PROVOGUE RECORDS ON OCTOBER 12, 2010

SPECIAL GUESTS INCLUDE HUEY LEWIS, SAXOPHONE GREAT RON HOLLOWAY, VIOLINIST BOBBY YANG, KEYBOARDIST RICK STEFF AND PERCUSSIONIST TONY ANTONELLI ALONGSIDE HONEYTRIBE BAND MEMBERS GEORGE PATSOS AND GABRIEL STRANGE

New York — Dutch independent label Provogue Records has announced an October 12 street date for Devon Allman’s Honeytribe’s latest recording SPACE AGE BLUES. Allman shares, “I had a concept that you could simplify as ‘Darth Vader meets B.B. King. Even before I’d written the first song, I decided I wanted to make a statement about the way we live. I love blues and I’m a sci-fi geek, so I imagined a marriage of the two: music with a backbone that’s solid and soulful, lyrics that talk about where we’re at and where we’re heading, and a sprinkling of cosmic dust — colorful, creative sounds — on top of everything.”

The album is his second with bassist George Potsos and drummer Gabriel Strange. The 11 tracks offer a musical thrill ride, carefully constructed, but full of surprises like guitar licks that explode into whistling comet trails, lush beds of strings and an overall sonic palette that draws on the best of electric music’s past and present. There is an emphasis on composition and the band has captured something timeless amongst these songs. As the lyrics of the song “Space Age Blues” speak to the theme of life in the digital age, Allman, Potsos and Strange draw from the wellspring of Curtis Mayfield and Led Zeppelin to define their own distinctive Southern-rooted fusion musically.

Special guests include Eighties megastar Huey Lewis, who lends his badass harmonica skills to “Could Get Dangerous.” Allman offers, “Huey was a pleasure to work with. He was a complete gentleman, and a really amazing player. He drank a lot of coffee and wore really great shoes.” Other guests include Ron Holloway, Dizzy Gillespie’s veteran saxophonist who delivers a masterful performance. Virtuoso Violinist Bobby Yang from Kevin Costner’s Modern West, serves as a one-man string section bowing all the violins via overdubbing on the ballad “Warm in Wintertime.” Tony Antonelli adds percussion, and Memphis session veteran Rick Steff plays electric keyboards, leaving the acoustic piano to Allman.

Although Allman Brothers Band front man Gregg Allman is his father, Devon carved out his own musical path. He shares, “I didn’t grow up in limos or backstage. I had a very normal childhood in the suburbs, eating McDonalds and playing soccer. By the time I was five; I was running off with my mother’s Beatles records and learning all the words. Only relatively recently have I been open enough to listen to the advice my dad shares. I’ve always been kind of a lone wolf and I’ve worked my share of shit jobs, from a sweat shop printing T-shirts to a steel factory in Memphis to Burger King.”

Slowly building a solid, loyal fan base worldwide over the past decade, Devon Allman and Honeytribe continue building this army one gig at a time. They have been in constant motion, averaging 250 to 300 shows a year across the Globe. Reflecting on the past, looking towards the future, Allman states, “it’s time for us to really bring our A-game. The three of us have delivered an album we feel is a quantum leap from anything we have recorded in the past. Artists and bands get to the point where you either have to stay in the sandbox or go to beach. And with Space Age Blues, I hope we’ve made that transition.” Allman co-produced SPACE AGE BLUES with Ardent Studio’s veteran engineer and producer Pete Matthews in Memphis, TN.

ATO Records is excited to announce that Dawes has confirmed a headlining Fall North American tour. Beginning in San Francisco, CA, on August 12 at the California Academy of Sciences and culminating in a performance at The Casbah in San Diego, CA, on November 27, Dawes will continue to showcase this Fall why they are considered one of America’s hardest-working and conistently-touring bands. In addition to all of these upcoming shows, Dawes recently recorded a live session with the fine folks over at Yours Truly. Dawes released their debut album, North Hills, at end of 2009, an album that garnered immediate critical praise. Rolling Stone Magazine online claimed they are “the roots-rock rookies of the year thanks to their note-perfect take on the warm, folksy Laurel Canyon sound.” Paste Magazine agreed, naming them one of their “Best of What’s Next” artists and praising their “stripped-down, dusty-hands country sound.” Daytrotter’s Sean Moeller even declared North Hills “hands down one of the finest records of 2009″ and called Dawes “a perfect band.” Dawes has been touring nonstop since the release of North Hills, perfecting their live show and developing a devoted fanbase across the country as a result.

Austin genre-benders Bee vs. Moth announce new album and tour dates

Austin genre-benders Bee vs. Moth announce new album and tour dates

“Hard ear candy for your soft inner child.” — Audra Schroeder, Austin Chronicle

Austin, Texas’ wild and brassy quintet Bee vs. Moth has announced a fall 2010 release for its latest album, Acronyms. Midwest tour dates have also been released (see below), with more to follow.

Bee Vs. Moth exists somewhere between Tom Waits’ rumpled New Orleans jazz and a maniacal Beirut gone instrumental: the melodies are strong and boisterous yet the music is subtle and clever. The band has one foot in the world of jazz and creative improvisation, and the other firmly planted on a distortion pedal. With surprising instrumentation, innovative songwriting, quirky melodies, and a healthy sense humor, Bee vs. Moth plays music that defies traditional categories.

Bassist Philip Moody and drummer Sarah Norris started Bee vs. Moth with a pile of odd music they wrote together, and in 2004 began performing around Austin. The band has since grown into a five-piece ensemble with ambitious arrangements featured in film and television scores, original videos, and live shows in Austin and throughout the country. Bee vs. Moth’s second studio album, Acronyms, will be released in September 2010. The record follows the band’s 2007 debut, Soundhorn, and 2009′s Turkey Sandwiches, a free online release of recordings made live on tour.

Bee vs. Moth’s upcoming calendar is full of new projects. A fall Midwestern tour follows on the heels of the record release. Live action and animated music videos directed by Stephen Floyd and Jessica Dreesen will feature tracks from Acronyms. Two of the band’s songs are featured in the 2010 season of the PBS series Roadtrip Nation. In conjunction with Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, the band will write and perform an original score for the 1928 Buster Keaton classic, The Cameraman.

Bee vs. Moth’s musical family is a big one. Band members perform and collaborate with Austin projects Benko, The Invincible Czars, My Education, Flying Balalaika Brothers, New Music Co-op, Golden Hornet Project, and others. In 2011, Bee vs. Moth will re-imagine the symphonic masterpiece Pictures at an Exhibition and score this Mussorgsky / Ravel classic for a double band with The Invincible Czars.
Bee vs. Moth live:

10/02 Columbia, MO @ The Blue Fugue

THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL FALL HEADLINE TOUR DATES

NEW ALBUM, AMERICAN SLANG, IN STORES AND ONLINE NOW VIA SIDEONEDUMMY RECORDS

The Gaslight Anthem is excited to announce additional tour dates on their upcoming Fall North American headline tour, a tour being supported by Fake Problems as well as The Menzingers, Rival Schools and Bridge and Tunnel on select dates. Presale tickets for the Fall tour dates announced this week can be purchased via http://tix.concertmaps.com/thegaslightanthempresale/ before general onsale commences at the end of this week.

The band’s full Fall tour kicks off September 4 in Lincoln, NE, and will continue through the first half of October, including a headline appearance in New York City at Radio City Music Hall on September 30, before culminating with The Gaslight Anthem’s October 9 appearance at the Austin City Limits Music Festival in Austin, Texas. The Gaslight Anthem recently toured North America with Tim Barry (Avail) and Chamberlain and are now performing European club and festival dates before returning for their Fall headline tour.

The critical praise for the band and AMERICAN SLANG has been global, with outlets such as Pitchfork stating the album “ultimately proves The Gaslight Anthem are not afraid to move forward,” and TIME Magazine declaring “if you like your classic rock tinged with romantic nostalgia, this quartet is the best thing on offer.” Additionally, SPIN Magazine gave the album eight out of 10 stars in its lead review for July, and NPR praised the band within its “All Things Considered” feature as well as the coveted “First Listen” exclusive album stream that gave listeners a chance to preview AMERICAN SLANG one week prior to its release date. The band also recently performed their latest single, “Boxer,” on LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON and performed the title track to the album on THE TONIGHT SHOW WITH JAY LENO.

AMERICAN SLANG was released globally the week of June 15, 2010 on SideOneDummy Records. Produced by Ted Hutt (who produced the band’s acclaimed second album, THE ’59 SOUND), AMERICAN SLANG heralds a dramatic leap forward for the New Jersey-based band. Tracks such as “Bring It On,” “Orphans” and “Stay Lucky” bristle and burn with the spirit of soul and the artistic adventurousness and confidence of a band that has come into its own and truly found its own voice.

CHORD (MEMBERS OF PELICAN) TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM ON IMPORTANT RECORDS

Tue, 08/10/2010 - 21:00

CHORD TO RELEASE SOPHOMORE ALBUM PROGRESSION THROUGH IMPORTANT RECORDS ON NOVEMBER 5

CHICAGO BASED POWERAMBIENT QUINTET FEATURES MEMBERS OF PELICAN AND X-BAX; NEW ALBUM SPANS THE LENGTH OF TWO FORMATS

Chord, the powerambient troupe formed by Kyle Benjamin, Jason Hoffman, Trevor Shelley de Brauw (of Pelican), Phil Dole (of X-Bax), and Sean McCarthy with the shared vision of exploiting and exploring the sonic depth of a single chord, are preparing to release their sophomore epic Progression through Important Records this Fall. Whereas 2009′s Flora was comprised of pieces with an improvisational slant (each piece was one chord, and each member of the group played only one assigned note of the chord) the new record encompasses a much greater degree of composition and structure.

For the new album three single-chord compositions were charted out, one freeform and tone driven, one long-form piece with charts dictating the players’ intensity of performance, and one grid-like chart where each players’ note continually shifts, though the combination of voices continue to maintain the chord. Meticulously layered, dense and sprawling tones create an atmosphere that is ominous without losing its refined edge of beauty. Six chords were chosen and arranged in a progression that encompasses two separate performances of each of the three compositions. Though the CD and LP share a similar internal structure and can be listened on their own, they are intended to be played concurrently, forming the full six chord arc of the total piece.

PRESS ON CHORD’S DEBUT ALBUM FLORA

These are master musicians that are inventive, daring, and create beautiful music, utilizing different effects and playing styles to bring the songs on Flora to life – Outburn

With cues to change up the texture, dynamics, attack, and so forth, these heavies nod to Tony Conrad and Branca on a solid record – Signal to Noise

Chord happily dedicate themselves to the simple but effective principle that ominous noise — as the concluding “Am” shows from the start just as much as “Am7″ — is enough to work with rather than riffs and singing – All Music Guide

Primus Offers Free Downloads of Rehearsal Tapes

Tue, 08/10/2010 - 20:58

PRIMUS OFFERS FREE DOWNLOAD OF REHEARSALS

Now that Primus’ first headlining tour in four years is well underway, playing to rapturous fans across the country, the band is pleased to offer a handful of tracks from tour rehearsals at Primus HQ in San Rafael, CA, earlier this summer. Turns out the tapes came out great and Les, Ler and Jay thought it would be fun to share them with their fans. The band plans to head into the studio soon to record their first album since 1999.

Les Claypool said, “I haven’t rehearsed a band this hard since Frog Brigade decided to perform Pink Floyd’s epic Animals album. Having Jay back in the band has rejuvenated our excitement for Primus and being that he is one of my favorite drummers in the world, the music that is coming out of us is beyond anything we’ve ever done before. It’s like ‘sultry-acid-space-rock’.”

INGRAM HILL TO HIT THE ROAD SEC Tour Planned With Labelmates Benjy Davis Project

INGRAM HILL TO HIT THE ROAD SEC Tour Planned With Labelmates Benjy Davis Project

Memphis-based rock trio Ingram Hill will be releasing their new album, “Look Your Best,” on September 28, 2010, via Rock Ridge Music, and the band plans to head out on tour in advance of the album’s release. Plenty of dates are also planned after album release as well. As part of their tour plans and once college football season kicks off, Ingram Hill will be playing a tour of SEC college towns with their labelmates, Benjy Davis Project. (See tour schedule below.) Ingram Hill will also be sailing on Rock Boat XI ( www.rockboat.com) in January 2011. Fans can look for a new band website around album release also.

“Look Your Best” features 10 brand new tracks (12 tracks on iTunes) and was produced by Rick Beato (Billionaire, Michelle Malone, Flickerstick, Shinedown) at his Stone Mountain, Georgia, studio. The band had worked with Beato on their first full-length, 2004’s “June’s Picture Show.” The band was previously signed to Hollywood Records and released two albums on the label: the aforementioned “June’s Picture Show,” which boasted two Billboard charting Hot AC radio hits (“Will I Ever Make It Home” and “Almost Perfect”); and 2007’s “Cold In California” (which came after a line-up change). After ending their relationship with Hollywood following that album, they began writing and recording “Look Your Best.” The band has toured extensively with bands such as Hootie and the Blowfish, Maroon 5, Guster, Better Than Ezra, and Hanson. Ing ram Hill is: Justin Moore (lead vocals, guitar), Phil Bogard (guitar), Zach Kirk (bass).

Fang Island tour, tour, tour: dates with Stone Temple Pilots, Matt & Kim and headlining EU/UK

Tue, 08/10/2010 - 02:40

Fang Island tour, tour, tour: dates with Stone Temple Pilots, Matt & Kim and headlining EU/UK

“Honest and life-affirming and infectious, and it’s that rare concentration of directness and simplicity that makes Fang Island so uniquely and wonderfully inclusive.” Best New Music — Pitchfork

“Fang Island are simply killer fun, a proper gang who sing collectively and pummel their guitars without recourse to errant soloing.” Four Stars — MOJO

Fresh off of touring with indie-rock legends The Flaming Lips in July, Fang Island again hits the road this week supporting the reunited Stone Temple Pilots. The Brooklyn based high-fiving guitar-anthem optimists will then embark on their first headlining tour of the UK and Europe in September, starting in Dublin at the Electric Picnic. Then, after quick stops to play the Pygmalian Music Festival and Midpoint Music Festival back in the American heartland, Fang Island tour into October with daredevil dancepunk duo Matt & Kim. Please see below for complete dates.

Pitchfork recently premiered the quintet’s latest video, “Careful Crossers” which was shot in Los Angeles in the storied Glassroom at Sargent House. This marks the band’s third video to debut via the popular site which previously featured the quirky videos for “Daisy” and “Life Coach”.

Fang Island’s self-titled debut album hit shelves on February 23rd via Sargent House amid a wealth of praise from press, with many writers declaring it one of the Best of 2010, just two months into the new year. A digital EP featuring the popular album track “Daisy” backed with Chris Keating of Yeasayer’s remix of “Absolute Place” off their Sky Gardens EP preceded the full length in January.

Fang Island’s finger-tapping guitar lines, chanted vocals, triumphant harmonies and overall perky songs hearken to the sort of “Total Music” of Jay Reatard, Ponytail, Kraftwerk, Marnie Stern, Thin Lizzy, et al. But, perhaps more so, its songs are like the music in your head at that moment when everything feels just right: that first kiss, that high score on the video game, buying your first small nation in cash… you know, good stuff.

Fang Island began, oddly enough, as an art school project while the band members were attending the prodigious Rhode Island School of Design (also the foundation for Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Les Savvy Fav, Six Finger Satellite, Lightning Bolt and some band called the Talking Heads.) According to guitarist Jason Bartell, the goal was to “make music for people who like music.” That is, music without irony that harnesses its uplifting qualities. Just like a classic rock song or classical symphony can stir us emotionally, Fang Island exists to unlock that spirit.

Fang Island is guitarist Jason Bartell, bassist Michael Jacober, guitarist Chris Georges, guitarist Nicholas Andrew Sadler, and drummer Marc St. Sauveur. They all share collective group vocal harmonies and the occasional hand claps. While Sadler is also known for his role in the debauched rock band Daughters, it is only his fretboard skill that translates between the two groups.

Since Record Makers opened their doors ten years ago, their calling card has been the establishment of partnerships hitherto unseen, moving forward in exciting, creative directions long before they became in vogue.

It all started with AIR’s score for Sofia Coppola’s The Virgin Suicides, the label’s first official release, which they A&Red entirely. AIR have since parted ways with the label, but the legacy and impact of this collaboration endure.

Next came Sébastien Tellier, a maverick talent always keen on collaborating with the crème de la crème. His first album, L’Incroyable Verité, was mixed by close friend Quentin Dupieux (aka Mr. Oizo) in 1999. A few years later, in need of a percussionist to add finesse to his 2004 Politics track “La Ritournelle”, Tony Allen was the man to step into the breach, long before Damon Albarn enlisted him for The Good, The Bad and The Queen. His latest album, Sexuality, remains the only album produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo outside of Daft Punk / Crydamoure. “Universe” was the only contemporary song to feature on the soundtrack for Daft Punk’s Electroma.

Being massive cinema aficionados, Record Makers were prouder still to release the seminal soundtrack to “Assault on Precinct 13” by John Carpenter in 2003. Messages of thanks flooded in from around the world, as prior to this release, fans were limited to watching bootleg copies on their VCRs.

Kavinsky’s debut, Testarossa Autodrive, also marked the music video directorial debut for Jonas & Francois, who have gone on to work with the likes of Madonna, Kanye West and Justice. Kavinsky’s latest release, Nightcall features guest vocals from Lovefoxxx, as well as Guy-Manuel, SebastiAn and
Jackson on production and mixing duties.

Anthony Burrill, the British designer, provided artistic direction for the most recent addition to the Record Makers stable, Acid Washed. His crisp designs, all clean lines and bright colours, playfully convey the glamour and elegance of their music. Impressed by the collaboration, Jenny Packham requested they provide visuals and music for her Spring / Summer show
at London Fashion Week 2010.

Turzi first came to the attention of Record Makers when he applied for an internship in 2004. He wasn’t hired, but instead was signed as an artist. His sonic voyage through kraut-rock, electronica and heavy metal has culminated in two albums to date. The latest, B, features guest vocals from Bobby Gillespie and French avant-garde eccentric, Brigitte Fontaine.

Arpanet’s Wireless Internet was another visionary album. Back in 2002, nobody was predicting the impact digital technology would have. Hypnolove’s eponymous debut album Eurolove featured feisty guest vocals from Bitch Lap Lap, who has become rather popular under another name since then (can you guess who it is?). Their new single, mixed by Mickey Moonlight, will see the light of day soon.

Whilst the past ten years have seen close to a century of releases and videos, the recent establishment of a film production company, EYE CANDY, and a sister label for singles and EP’s, Coco&Co., will see this figure rise dramatically in the decade to come.

To celebrate Record Makers 10th Anniversary, the label is giving everyone a party favor of sorts. In conjunction with French contemporary artists Mrzyk & Moriceau, Record Makers has created a free iPhone App to celebrate 10 years of amazing music. The app consists of a mix-and-match game with all drawings being created by Mrzyk & Moriceau and opening music provided by Sébastien Tellier. (The two artists also teamed up with Tellier on the stunning video for his song “Look” which you can watch HERE). There are three winning combinations in the game with various prizes from Record Makers entire catalog. Also, everyone who enters will be eligible for the grand prize drawing of a trip to Paris for Record Makers 10th Anniversary celebration on 10/10/10. For more information on the contest and to download the free iPhone App, please click HERE.

Stay tuned for new music, videos and more from Sébastien Tellier, Acid Washed,Turzi and Kavinsky in the coming weeks!

And mark you calendars for Record Makers 10th anniversary birthday concert in Los Angeles on Sept. 30, 2010 @ The El Rey Theater featuring Record Makers’ finest talents, and the label’s first ever art show at the Urban Outfitters Gallery on Sept. 29, featuring work by the amazing artists whose contributions have proved vital to the visual world of Record Makers.

COMMON GRACKLE – THE GREAT DEPRESSION Gregory Pepper and Factor’s latest collaboration: never imitating, always creating

COMMON GRACKLE – THE GREAT DEPRESSION Gregory Pepper and Factor’s latest collaboration: never imitating, always creating

The Common Grackle, a bold looking bird native to the eastern coast of North America, has been known to mimic the sounds of other birds and even humans at times. Are we to assume then, that The Great Depression, the debut full length from Common Grackle, would simply be musical regurgitation? The answer is a resounding no. Common Grackle, a seamless Canadian collaboration of young indie pop mastermind Gregory Pepper and renowned hip-hop producer Factor has delivered some of the most inventive and intoxicating music of the summer. Fusing Gregory Pepper’s ear for distinct, floating melodies and Factor’s uncanny ability to make even the most benign rhythm sound driving and memorable, Common Grackle will leave the kind of impression on listeners that will last long after the last birds have flown south for the winter.

At the suggestion of Fake Four Inc founder Ceschi Ramos, label mates Pepper and Factor began corresponding in 2009. This lead to their first recording: a drunken homage to ODB’s ‘Shimmy Shimmy Ya.’ Half a year later the duo met for the first time to mix the 12 song album they had created by swapping audio files over the internet. Perhaps it was the distance between the two which lead to such a profound release. The Great Depression moves with incredible ease; all 12 of the “Psych-hop” tracks bend and blend, creating not just quality tracks but an immense album that demands repeated listens.

‘Thank God It’s Monday’ (feat. Kool Keith) kicks The Great Depression off with a resounding bang. High-energy beats and Pepper’s haunting vocals create a vast-sounding odyssey. The Great Depression establishes itself as a strange but enticing place to be. The album’s dreamy title track and the introspective piano-led swoon of ‘At The Grindcore Show’ showcase the strength of Pepper’s songwriting, while the trippy, countrified groove of ‘Magic Beans’ (feat. Ceschi) displays Factor’s knack for making even the strangest of beats sound unwavering and gorgeous.

The Common Grackle might not possess the flair or recognition of the cardinal but writing off Common Grackle’s The Great Depression will not be nearly as easy. This is a collaboration that deserves to be heard: never imitating, always creating.

Juliette Commagere’s Solo Album Gets New Release Date; LA Show with Air Announced Album In-Stores October 26th on Manimal Records

Juliette Commagere’s Solo Album Gets New Release Date; LA Show with Air Announced Album In-Stores October 26th on Manimal Records

Juliette Commagere’s new solo album The Procession has a new release date (October 26th on Manimal Records) and the chanteuse is excited to be opening for Air on Ocober 23rd at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Instead of telling you about the album in our words (in case you missed it last time you can check it our HERE), we figured we’d let Juliette catch you up on her life since he releases her solo debut in 2008:

So here we are–year and a half later, and once again I have the task of making my life seem more interesting than it really is. In all honesty, it has been a pretty good year since my first solo record came out, and debbie downers like me don’t use that term loosely. I made a new and even more epic record, got married, got a new dog, got a new hairdo, toured around the world, made some money, spent it all, and played with some strange and not so strange bands. Which subject should I tackle first? My hairdo? It’s amazing.

Okay so the other bands: The Bird and the Bee, Puscifer( Maynard James Keenan’s side project), Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders and Joachim’s pops Ry Cooder and Nick Lowe. Yes, I am quite a versatile little lady. I used to be a snob and never want to play with other bands, but I’m so happy I started doing it because I love it! I have known Inara Georgefor a long time since we went to the same high school, and anyone who’s lived in L.A. long enough knows that going to Crossroads HighSchool is kind of like belonging to some rich and artsy cult. (Kate Hudson, Zooey Deschanel, Emily Deschanel, Jack Black, Gillian Welch, the Haden family, The Like, Inara George, Rooney, Jason Ritter, Simon Helberg, are all graduates) Puscifer on the other hand is what you might call a strange band. A strange band that likes expensive wine.. But there is definitely a part of me that dabbles in the dark side. We did a bunch of shows in Vegas and Joachim and I always fantasize about getting married in Vegas when we’re passing through, but we’re usually too lazy. So when Maynard offered to marry us onstage, how could I say no? Needless to say Joachim’s mom was horrified and asked if we think marriage is a joke and do we not take it seriously and, well, the answer is yes. I hesitated over whether or not to even mention it here because I sort of hate married people. They are really annoying and I always vowed to never become one of them. But that tax man keeps coming around and PF Changs ain’t free.

Touring: Aside from almost going down in a blaze of glory on an 11 hour Korean Airlines flight from hell, I’d have to be a real asshole to say that touring Europe, Japan, New Zealand and Australia wasn’t one of the best experiences of my life. Comedy babble aside–I personally love to travel, and it is in these foreign environments that I truly feel inspired. I see things with clear eyes, I miss the people I love, I experience things I will never forget, and I feel wistful and romantic instead of slovenly and bored. Foreigner was written while on the road in Europe, and Plantsong, in which I enlisted friend Jon Hassell to lend his melancholy sound, I wrote shortly after my Grandmother passed away while I was in Australia. Essentially “The Procession” is a metaphor for life, about trying to move forward, about the things that we make happen and accepting the things that are out of our control, about a longing and a yearning that is deep inside of me and that searches for a way out. I may never find a way to express it, but in “The Procession” I give it one more try.

Oh–and fyi, I’m not French Canadian, I’m a mother fuckin’ Mexican.

PRIMARY WAVE SIGNS CROWFIELD DEBUT SINGLE “MOVING ON” WILL BE RELEASED SEPTEMBER 2010 PLAY FAMILY CIRCLE MAGAZINE STADIUM IN SOUTH CAROLINA ON AUGUST 11 WITH HOOTIE & THE BLOWFISH

Mon, 08/09/2010 - 17:31

PRIMARY WAVE SIGNS CROWFIELD DEBUT SINGLE “MOVING ON” WILL BE RELEASED SEPTEMBER 2010 PLAY FAMILY CIRCLE MAGAZINE STADIUM IN SOUTH CAROLINA ON AUGUST 11 WITH HOOTIE & THE BLOWFISH

Primary Wave’s JV partners, Rick Smith and Scott Frazier are at it again with their latest signing, Crowfield. Crowfield joins the roster with Saving Abel (Virgin), Taddy Porter (Primary Wave Records/EMI), Volbeat (Universal Germany), and Brent James and the Contraband.

Charleston, SC band, Crowfield, is next in line to take the sound of the Lowcountry to the national arena. After years of playing in and around Charleston, Crowfield first single “Moving On” will hit airwaves nationally through Universal / Republic Records in September 2010 but will debut locally on Charleston’s The Bridge 105.5 in August 2010. Their debut album will be out later this year.

“We’re so thrilled to be a part of the Universal Records and Primary Wave families. It’s refreshing to find people in the music business who share our passion and our urgency to get our music in front of as many people as possible.” We’ve always maintained the idea that music listeners are smarter than most musicians give them credit for. They can sense when music is contrived. So, we’ve made it paramount for our performances and songs to be honest and emotional. The songs come from real places, real experiences. People see that. It gives them something real to latch on to and keeps them coming back,” said Tyler Mechem, lead singer of Crowfield.

On August 11th Crowfield will be opening for the band that blazed the trail for the South Carolina music scene, Hootie & The Blowfish. For the past nine years, Hootie & The Blowfish have held this annual summer concert event to help collect school supplies for children in need. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring school supplies to the concert for donation.

Crowfield was formed in Charleston, SC in 2005 and consists of Tyler Mechem (vocals/guitar), Joe Giant (piano/organ/keys/vocals), Parker Gins (drums), and Micah Nichols (guitar/vocals).

UK’S AMUSEMENT PARKS ON FIRE ANNOUNCE RELEASE OF NEW ALBUM ROAD EYES; ALSO ANNOUNCE DATES OPENING FOR BOXER REBELLION

UK’S AMUSEMENT PARKS ON FIRE ANNOUNCE RELEASE OF NEW ALBUM ROAD EYES; ALSO ANNOUNCE DATES OPENING FOR BOXER REBELLION

Nottingham England’s Amusement Parks on Fire announce the release of their third album, Road Eyes set to be released by Filter Music October 5th, 2010. The band will also be promoting the album with a tour opening for The Boxer Rebellion which kicks off September 22nd at the Middle East in Boston.

Recorded with the help of producers Michael Patterson (Great Northern, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Beck’s Midnite Vultures) and Nic Jodoin during a yearlong stay in Los Angeles, Road Eyes was an attempt to channel the bands love of both sonic adventurism and classic songwriting in to one fat free forty five minute fever dream of a pop record.

With a sound perhaps fittingly termed stargaze (which is not to be confused with shoegaze), the tracks that make up the new album are a colossal rush of massed guitars, voices, drums, keyboards and strings that burn with urgency and soar with sumptuous lyricism — while packing a visceral punch not unlike the feral punk that inspired the band back in the day.

Whereas the band’s past albums were recorded in such exotic locales as Iceland and self-produced by the band’s founder Michael Feerick and longtime band mate guitarist Daniel Knowles, the idea on Road Eyes was to craft a classic L.A. rock album of sorts; the album’s title refers to one of Feerick’s heroes, Neil Young, who in Feerick’s view epitomizes the best raw fusion of innovation and accessibility.
