David L. Wolper, whose landmark 1977 miniseries Roots engrossed the nation with its saga of an American family descended from an African slave, has died. He was 82.

Two years after director Tze Chun's short film "Windowbreaker" played at Sundance, this full-length feature based on the same film received praise at the festival in 2009.
